T-Mobile G1 Dream first ever Android handset from HTC

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

We have heard some rumours’ that the guys over at T-Mobile will be the first carrier to offer an Android handset, sketches of the device have been leaked and posted onto the internet. there not that clear but we have posted them for you anyway.

It seems this phone is causing a stir for Android fans and industry watchers, who probably know this device better as the HTC Dream, whilst AndroidGuys are calling it the G1. It seems that this phone was also spotted on the US FCC site recently, of course this all adding to the rumour of the device.

It was reported that this handset was created for Google by HTC who are founding members of the Open Handset Alliance to demonstrate the Android mobile operating system.

So the HTC Dream or 3G G1 depending on what you believe to be the correct name is said to offer a trackball, a QWERTY keyboard and for some extra branding it also has “With Google” on the back of the device, how sweet.

HTC plan to launch an Android handset before the end of the year, although no more information has officially been released by the company, HTC confirmed this information to pocket-lint.

HTC S740: much like Touch Diamond and Pro

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

For those of you who have often thought about owning a HTC Touch Pro but thought it was a little over the top, then HTC have another offering. The HTC S740 is a revamp of the old S710 and I have to say that HTC have certainly worked hard on their new handset.

The basic concept is much the same, the Windows Mobile Standard cell phone has the candybar styling along with the slide-out QWERTY keyboard. HTC have borrowed a lot of the design features from their Touch Diamond and Touch Pro and given the S740 a 2008 look.

As you would expect, HTC have worked hard on improving the features of the S740 over the older S710. The handset comes with 7.2Mbps HSDPA on the 900 and 2100MHz bands.

Other features include a 3.2-megapixel fixed focus cam, 2.4-inch QVGA display, quadband EDGE, GPS and WiFi. Many might be thinking that their handset already features most of those features, but do they have that cool keyboard that the S740 has.

New Nokia Smartphones: N79 and N85

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Nokia has recently announced that they will be releasing their two new Nseries smartphones. One being the N79 and the other will be the N85. The release date is due to be tomorrow.

The N79 is said to be replacing the older version N78. The camera on this phone has been updated from 3.2 mega pixels to an improved 5.0. It uses a dual-LED flash. It is designed as a fashion phone that will have changeable back covers, so the owner can have to their taste. It is in a candy bar style and comes with full 3G, WiFi and GPS features. The 4GB microSD card lets you store more than the previous model. And for someone like me, who likes their music, that is a good thing.

Nokia’s N85 is the better model and is replacing the N81. This camera has also been upgraded to five mega pixels, and includes GPS. It also has an AMOLED 2.6 inch screen, which should provide a better color. It can run about 28 hours of music from just one charge.

This N85, like the previous N81 is thought to be an N-Gage friendly phone. It has an 8GB microSDHC card and also gives the owners an option of upgrading to an impressive 16GB or more later on if wanted. They can access the internet through the WiFi or HSDPA-based 3G, although we’re not aware if it has international support yet.

Has your iPhone 3G improved with the OS 2.0.2 fix?

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Do you feel that iPhone OS 2.0.2 delivers improved communication with 3G networks? This is what Apple officials are now claiming, users of the OS 2.0.2 are mixed with their feelings on the new software which users loaded to attempt to fix widespread reception/connectivity issues, the majority of users say there has been no change with the quality of their reception, a small percentage said it has slightly improved and a minority said their reception was worse.

Even if the reception has not got any better for the users one good thing is that Apple have made it possible now to switch automatically between 2G and 3G networks for data and voice control. So basically the iPhone should jump off 3G when the signal is low or non-existent, and get straight back on it when the signal is better. Before the iPhone 3G wouldn’t do this, instead it stayed on the 3G network even when the strength was too low.

Rogers BlackBerry Bold: price x2 of $199 8GB iPhone 3G

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

The Apple iPhone 3G may be the hottest cellphone right now but then there are many brands out there with phones of equal specifications hoping to take a slice of the iPhone lead.

The BlackBerry Bold is RIM’s aim at getting more consumers on the Blackberry boat, while the previous Blackberry’s have always been aimed at the business user, the Bold does more entertainment than any other Blackberry device.

Rogers have become the first carrier in North America to ship the Blackberry bold and with it also the first device from Research in Motion that has 3G for GSM-based phone networks.

The Canadian edition of the Blackberry Bold has a much sharper 480×320 LCD, a two-megapixel camera with flash and video capture, 1GB of onboard storage, Wi-Fi and GPS.

Rogers have priced the BlackBerry Bold at $400 (that’s with a combined BlackBerry data and voice plan worth $45 per month), when comparing this to the iPhone 3G, its double the price.

The Apple iPhone 3G costs just $199 for an 8GB model. So the Bold becomes a direct competitor of the BlackBerry 8820 and 8800. We also hear that AT&T may also have a similar price for its launch within the next few weeks. You can read more iPhone 3G news here or BlackBerry.

Samsung i900 Omnia Unboxed: Do you believe it?

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

This is the Samsung i900 Omnia unboxing video that was released by the Samsung corporate for viral promotion. Now what’s the bet that someone will think this really happens when you unbox the Samsung Omnia.

You can see it now. The buyer opens his or her box, and looks for the red button and cannot find it anywhere, will there be one person that rings Samsung and asks where the red button is?

Unboxing has become an integral part of a product’s launch identity, and now Samsung is using this tradition as a form of promotion, but you got to love the video.

The Samsung Omnia i900 will feature the TouchWiz interface, a 3.2 inch touch-screen, 3G HSPDA, Bluetooth, image stabilizer, 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus, a GPS receiver and runs on Windows Mobile 6.1.

Kids always love to play with the box at Christmas more than the toy, but this is one cool box I would love to have with my Samsung i900. Check out the video below and let us know what you think.
